Many pole dancing classes have an age limit for their participants. It is important to know the age bracket that pole dance classes are open to before you sign up, so that you can be sure it will work with your schedule and lifestyle.

You also do not want to book online and show up, only to find out that you are too young or that you cannot attend!

Pole Dancing Classes: Age Limit and Who Can Attend

Pole Dancing Classes Age Limit and Who Can Attend

Most pole dance studios require dancers to be 18 years of age or older in order to participate in their pole fitness class programs. However, some studios allow students as young as 13 years old if they are accompanied by a parent but these classes offered fall under “pole fitness” rather than pole dancing.

The majority of studios offering pole dance programs typically cater more towards adults or women specifically who want a “sexy workout.”

“Pole Dancing” classes are usually focussed on sexy and sensual movement which is appropriate for ages 18 and over. In some instances, the minimum age requirement is 21.

Find Pole Dance Classes That Are Open To Your Age Group

It is always best to search a pole studio’s website to find their age requirements and schedule beforehand.

Most studios will have this information listed on their class schedule page and you can see if there are classes aimed at your age group or not.

Likewise, if you are looking for more mature classes, studios will list this information if they have specific classes aimed at mature pole dancers.

If you do not find the answers to your pole dancing class age questions on their website, call and ask them directly!

Who Can Attend a Pole Class?

Age is not the only factor to consider before joining a pole dance class.

Some pole dancing studios have different rules for their classes depending on the type of pole studio they are affiliated with and what their mission is as an organization.

For example, some pole studios may be associated with women’s empowerment or women’s rights and thus, be set up to only accommodate female attendees.

If you find that this is the case – try not to be offended, simply find another studio (there will always be another option)

When a pole dance class is set up to target a specific gender or any other demographic, this is done in order to create a safe-space for that demographic to pole dance.

Not only is this done to protect the well-being of students, but it also helps create a pole community that celebrates diversity!

If you are feeling unsure about whether or not you can attend pole dancing classes, call ahead and ask questions directly to your instructor.

Alternative Option 1: Inquire About Private Classes

If you do not find the answers you are looking for or seem to only find classes outside of your age bracket, it could be worth inquiring about private classes or even mobile classes.

You may find that you have more options and more flexibility this way. They could offer you a tailored package, for example, a small private group of 2-3 friends, etc.

Alternative Option 2: Home Pole Dance Classes

Open Dance Academy

Your last alternative would be to try out pole classes in the privacy and comfort of your own home!

There are plenty of pole dance DVDs on Amazon as well as videos on YouTube. There are also complete online pole dance academies like Open Dance Academy.

You can join ODA here. They offer a variety of online classes. Some will require you to have your own home dance pole, whilst others can be done without.

Finally, there are beginner pole dance courses, such as this one, that cover everything from basic moves to intermediate and advanced. These are great options as they allow you to go at your own pace and not worry about age limitations or restrictions.
